On August 14, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the Statistics (Amendment) Bill and the Accreditation Service Bill into law at State House, Nairobi. The ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Cheboi.
The Statistics (Amendment) Bill aims to streamline the management of statistical information at national and county levels by adhering to international best practices and standards. The new law also expands the mandate of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, aligning it with the provisions of the 2010 Constitution.
The Accreditation Service Act establishes the Kenya National Accreditation Service as the sole national agency responsible for managing accreditation services in the country. This law repeals the Kenya Accreditation Service Order of 2009 and establishes a robust framework for an internationally recognized accreditation system, aimed at strengthening the recognition of Kenyan products.
