On October 17, 2017, Gor Mahia, the SportPesa Premier League leaders, took a significant step towards claiming the 2017 league title with a 3-1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Striker Jacques Tuyisenge was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick in the match. His impressive performance has seen him tie with Kepha Aswani as the league's top scorers, both with 12 goals.

The win has left Gor Mahia just one point shy of securing the 2017 league title. With five games remaining in the season, the team will be looking to maintain their momentum and secure the championship.

However, their hopes of being crowned champions were dented in their previous match against Mathare United, where they suffered a 0-1 defeat. This loss also ended coach Dylan Kerr's 11-match unbeaten record.

Gor Mahia will next face their arch-rivals Ulinzi Stars on Sunday in their bid to secure the league title.
