Published on August 14, 2019, a Safaricom employee, Peter Odhiambo Ochieng, was arraigned in a Nairobi court to face charges of stealing money from a dead subscriber's M-Pesa account.
Ochieng was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing at the Milimani Law Court in Nairobi.
The court heard that Ochieng, an employee of Safaricom Kenya Limited, had illegally accessed a Safaricom SIM card belonging to a deceased woman and withdrawn over Sh45,600.
According to the court, on July 26, 2019, Ochieng conspired with others to steal Sh45,600 from the deceased Janet Khaniri's M-Pesa account.
Ochieng denied the charges before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
He was granted a cash bail of Sh100,000 or an alternative of Sh200,000 bond.
