On August 14, 2019, Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) published a notice in the Daily Nation listing 233 individuals it claims have encroached on its Tsavo East National Park in Voi, Taita Taveta County.

The agency has since filed a class action suit against these individuals, seeking their eviction from the park.

According to KWS lawyer Joseph Shiundu Lutta, the agency initially filed a plaint on March 8, 2019, but it was rejected due to not meeting the class action suit threshold.

Mr Lutta explained that the agency had to work on an expanded list, which now includes 233 individuals, and has held a meeting with the residents chaired by the area chief.

The inter parties hearing has been set for November 28, 2019, to give the respondents ample time to file their responses.
