Safaricom's True Value to Kenyan society has increased by 12% to KES543 billion during its last financial year, significantly surpassing its financial profit.

According to the company's 7th Sustainable Business Report, the True Value methodology, developed by KPMG, assesses the indirect value contribution made by Safaricom to the economy, society, and environment in Kenya.

"We assess the significant indirect value contribution we make to the economy, society and environment in Kenya using the KPMG True Value methodology," said Nicholas Ng'ang'a, Chairman, Safaricom PLC Board.

The company has reported a 5% increase in direct and indirect jobs, totaling 171,369, and a 20% increase in the social impact of M-PESA, reaching KES191.1 billion.

"The greatest value continues to be felt by M-PESA customers who benefit from improved ability to manage and save money, as well as the wellbeing that comes with access to goods, services and opportunities," Ng'ang'a said.

From an environmental perspective, Safaricom has replaced 7 million single-use plastic bags with eco-friendly, reusable carry bags and has reduced waste by recycling or reusing 97% of its waste.
