Today marks 29 years since the death of Bishop Alexander Kipsang Muge, the pioneer bishop of Eldoret Diocese, who was killed in a road accident on August 14, 1990.
Despite the passage of time, the family of the late bishop is still seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Esther Jebet Muge, Bishop Muge’s firstborn daughter, expressed her family's frustration, saying, “As a family, we are still in the dark over what actually led to the death of our father. It may take years but one day God will reveal it to us,”
The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Eldoret Diocese, led by Bishop Christopher Ruto, has called for the declassification of the findings of a commission of inquiry into Bishop Muge's death.
Bishop Ruto emphasized that the church wants the truth to be revealed, not just for the family's sake but also for the good of the church and the general public.
During his tenure, Bishop Muge initiated several developments, including the establishment of health institutions and the creation of the Church Community Services (CCS), which is now known as the Anglican Development Services.
The commemoration of Bishop Muge's life will start with the laying of a wreath on his grave at the St Mathews ACK Cathedral in Eldoret, followed by a thanksgiving service presided by former ACK Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi.
As part of the celebrations, ACK will hold a free medical camp at Bishop Muge Memorial Church.
