While breast cancer is a significant concern, many breast changes are not necessarily cancerous. In fact, a majority of breast changes are benign and can be caused by various conditions.
According to medical experts, hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle can cause swollen, painful, or tender breasts. This is a normal part of the menstrual cycle and is not a cause for concern.
However, there are several other breast conditions that may be detected through breast x-rays or mammograms. These include cysts, fibroadenomas, radial scars, microcalcifications, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH), and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS).
While some of these conditions are harmless, others may indicate an increased risk of developing breast cancer in the future. For example, microcalcifications can be a sign of DCIS, which is a non-invasive form of breast cancer that can progress to invasive cancer if left untreated.
It's essential to note that these conditions can be detected through regular breast exams and mammograms. If you have any concerns about breast health, it's always best to consult with a medical professional.
