Team Kenya's preparations for the African Games have been marred by confusion, with athletes being kicked out of Nairobi's Luke Hotel on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, due to unpaid bills.
According to reports, the hotel's management had barred some athletes from accessing the facility, only to let them in at the intervention of Team Kenya officials.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse when the athletes were ordered to check out of the hotel with their luggage moments after streaming in from their evening training sessions.
"The hotel management said they would only allow us in if monies owed to the hotel were settled," Daily Nation quoted one of the athletes.
Team Kenya boss Charles Nyaberi later intervened, allowing the athletes to spend the night.
Julius Yego, the Athletics skipper, observed that the team often faces such problems, citing the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, where some athletes had to fly out late due to missing tickets.
"This team was selected over a month ago and I don't know why the issue of accommodation is cropping up now," Yego said.
