On August 14, 2019, it was reported that Eliud Owalo, a former aide to Raila Odinga, had fallen out with the ODM party after publicly ridiculing Raila in 2017, accusing him of favoring the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
According to sources, Owalo had made a disparaging Facebook post in March 2017, praying for Raila Odinga to lose the 2017 polls as a payback for not giving him the ODM nomination for Kibra.
‘I squarely blame Raila Odinga for mischievously instigating SELECTION of the ODM Parliamentary candidate for Kibra Constituency for the August 2017 elections,’ Owalo said in a post on March 2017.
He also stated, ‘I have information at my disposal that a decision had already been made by Raila himself a while back to block Owalo in Kibra based on issues which are already in the public domain.’
Two years later, the Kibra seat fell vacant, and Owalo could not take back his words. He was left with no option but to resign from the party and seek a political ticket elsewhere to vie for the Kibra seat.
It is now believed that Owalo will be using the Amani National Congress ticket to go for the Kibra seat, and he is currently working in the Musalia Mudavadi presidential secretariat.
