On August 14, 2019, Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira made a significant move to Scotland, joining Hearts on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2019/20 season.
The 23-year-old Portuguese keeper has faced stiff competition for playing time at Old Trafford, with David De Gea as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and Sergio Romero as the preferred backup.
According to a statement on the club's website, Pereira's move to Hearts is subject to international clearance, and he aims to obtain regular first-team football and continue his development in Scotland.
Loan Move ¶
This marks the fifth loan move in Pereira's career, following stints with Rochdale, Belenenses, Vitoria Setubal, and Kortrijk.
He will hope to replicate the success of his teammate, defender Demi Mitchell, who has benefited from two loan spells with Hearts under manager Craig Levein.
Pereira was part of Manchester United's Tour 2019 squad and appeared in the 2-0 victory over Perth Glory before facing Leeds United in the 4-0 win in Australia.
