On August 10, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded at the Nairobi Hebrew Synagogue on Uhuru Highway, where a man allegedly assaulted a police officer. The incident has now made its way to a Nairobi court.
According to the charges, Daniel Malaki Otieno is accused of unlawfully assaulting Police Constable (PC) Harisson Karisa Kazungu. The court also heard that Otieno damaged a certificate of appointment belonging to PC Dennis Okumu, a second count of malicious damage of property.
During his defense, Otieno claimed that he thought PC Kazungu was a robber and acted in self-defense. He stated that he only later discovered the complainant's affiliation with the National Police Service when he was arrested and taken to the police station.
