Mombasa MCA Acquitted Over Alleged Drug Trafficking ¶
On August 13, 2019, Mombasa Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni acquitted MCA Ahmed Salama Omar of drug trafficking charges after the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence.
The prosecution had requested additional time to complete their investigation, but the court denied the request, stating that the accused had voluntarily presented himself to the police, allowing them to complete their investigation within the given timeframe.
On August 12, 2019, Omar was among 18 people arrested in Mombasa following a crackdown by the Interior Ministry on suspected drug traffickers.
During the raid, police seized 42 sachets of heroin, 147 packets of bhang, and KSh.608,000 in counterfeit notes.
Following his acquittal, Omar was released from custody.
