Safaricom Staffer Charged with Stealing from Dead Customer's Mpesa Account

On August 14, 2019, a Safaricom staff member was brought to justice for allegedly stealing from a dead customer's Mpesa account.

Peter Odhiambo Ochieng, a Safaricom employee, is accused of accessing a deceased woman's Mpesa wallet and withdrawing over Sh40,000.

According to the charge sheet, on July 26, 2019, Ochieng accessed a Sim Card belonging to late Janet Khaniri, wife to Wilson Karani Khaniri, and stole Sh45,600 from her Mpesa wallet.

Ochieng pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted a cash bail of Sh100,000 or an alternative of Sh200,000 bond.
