Published on August 14, 2019, a new IPSOS survey has shed light on the potential successor to President Uhuru Kenyatta, with Deputy President William Ruto emerging as the frontrunner.
The survey, conducted between March 4 and 12, 2018, involved 2,003 respondents and found that 33% of them believed Ruto would win if the election were held today.
Following Ruto in the poll were Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, and Nasa leader Raila Odinga, who collectively garnered 14% of the votes.
Notably, Ruto has been actively campaigning for his 2022 State House bid, hosting high-level delegations and holding rallies disguised as official duties, despite warnings against early campaigning.
Interestingly, the IPSOS survey also found that the Uhuru-Raila handshake had no measurable effect on the country's politics, with Kenyans perceiving the Opposition's ability to hold the Jubilee government accountable as having increased after the handshake.
