On August 13, 2019, police officers in Nyando, Kisumu County, detained a 63-year-old man accused of defiling an 11-year-old Class Six pupil in Kodeyo village.

The suspect, Johannes Amollo Abuogi, allegedly committed the act after his wife left to work at the rice fields, leaving the minor, a total orphan, unattended.

According to the area administrator, Mark Nyadianga, the suspect crept up to where the minor was sleeping and defiled her, prompting the girl to scream and prompting villagers to come to her rescue.

The minor was rushed to Rabuor Health Center for treatment, while the suspect is set to be charged in court.

Mr. Nyadianga confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect's actions were a serious breach of trust and a violation of the minor's rights.
