On August 13, 2019, Lady Justice Maureen Onyango made a ruling that will see Francis Wangusi, the Director General of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), continue in office beyond his contract's expiration date of August 22, 2019.

The decision was made in response to an application by the Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek) seeking to stop the recruitment of the director general until the CA has a board in place.

According to court documents, Cofek claims that the CA has conducted the recruitment of the director general without a legitimate board, contrary to the law.

"It's desirous and in the absolute public interest that this court intervenes to allow for an immediate stop to the unlawful purported recruitment of the successor to the current director," Cofek petitioners claimed.
