Team Kenya's representatives have been in high gear since Monday, training at Olekajuado and Isinya secondary schools in Kajiado County. The teams are fine-tuning their skills ahead of the FEASSSA Championship, which will take place in Arusha, Tanzania from August 17-26.
According to the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) chairman Peter Orero, the team is confident of defending their overall title. 'We are ready for the championship and we are going for nothing but for the title,' he said. 'To win the overall title we must win in many disciplines as possible.'
Kenya is the defending champion, having claimed 28 team medals, including 10 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze, during last year's showpiece in Rwanda. The team will hold a four-day camp to acclimatise before flagging off to Arusha on Friday.
Over 50 teams from Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Rwanda will compete in various disciplines, including volleyball, handball, football, basketball, rugby, swimming, hockey, athletics, netball, and racket games. In rugby, volleyball, and hockey, three teams from each discipline will compete in Tanzania.
Upper Hill, Laiser Hill, and St. Peters Mumias will represent Kenya in the rugby sevens, while Kiira College of Uganda, LTP from Burundi, Jinja SS Uganda, Okeeswa of Tanzania, and Hana International from Uganda will complete the line-up in the 15s version.
