On August 12, 2019, the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) Games kicked off with an entertaining match between Mombasa and Kericho at Kericho Green Stadium.
Mombasa braved the cold and rain to beat hosts Kericho 2-0 in the opening football match, with Munda Mbarak scoring the first goal in the dying minutes of the first half and Hussein Chimbet netting the second in the 80th minute.
The match was witnessed by Council of Governors chairman Wycliff Oparanya, along with fellow governors Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), James Ongwae (Kisii), and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya).
Stakes are high, as the winners will earn tickets to represent Kenya in the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association Games to be hosted by Uganda in December.
On Tuesday, Bomet and Meru emerged as five-star winners, with Bomet beating Lapfund 5-1 and Meru beating Ugatuzi 5-1.
Other matches saw Kajiado edge out Busia 1-0, while Nairobi and Samburu drew 1-1, and Nakuru hammered Murang’a 4-1.
On the opening day of the women’s tug-of-war, Nakuru outmuscled hosts Kericho.
