On August 13, 2019, Meru County football team bounced back to edge Nairobi 6-1 in a high-pressing tie at the ongoing KICOSCA games at Kericho Teachers Training College grounds in Kericho County.

Meru County had suffered a 5-1 rout in their opening match against Ugatuzi but managed to thump Nairobi, who had earlier ended their opening match on a 1-1 stalemate against Samburu.

John Kimathi scored a treble for Meru County, with his first goal coming in the 27th minute after George Maina dribbled past the goalie and placed the ball into the right side of the net.

Kimathi doubled the lead for Meru County in the 35th minute, creatively oozing past the defenders and placing the ball to the far left, beating the goalie Alex Mwangi on a one-to-one situation.

Kimathi completed his first KICOSCA hat-trick after making a lone run, dribbled past the keeper, and placed the ball into the back of an unoccupied goal, making it 4-0.

Isaack Munene had the final say, beating the goalie on a one-on-one situation twice consecutively to complete his brace and set the scoreboard to 6-0, with Nairobi's Meshack Omiti netting the lone goal to make it 6-1.

Meru County controlled the better part of the tie, outsmarting Nairobi both in speed and creativity to chalk up their first victory, with Kimathi putting up a man-of-the-match performance.
