On August 13, 2019, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) and Public Health department gave a clean bill of health to Shreeji Chemicals Limited after concluding investigations into pollution claims against the firm's plant in Mariakani, Kilifi.
The authorities allowed the company to resume operations after tests on air and water from the company tested negative.
According to a joint report by Nema and public health, tests from samples collected from dust, water, and other by-products from the company found no side effects on humans and crops as earlier alleged.
Instead, the report linked Kadzodzo Secondary School to the water-borne diseases reported in the area due to poor sanitation.
The authorities recommended the school management improve drainage ditches, which are directed to a nearby water source before the Third Term resumes next month.
