On August 13, 2019, Safaricom and Football Kenya Federation launched the third edition of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom football tournament, marking a significant milestone in the growth of grassroots football in Kenya.
As part of the tournament's expansion, a joint venture between La Liga and Football Kenya Federation will provide coaching clinics to selected tacticians, giving them an opportunity to receive high-level training.
According to Safaricom Chief Customer Officer Sylvia Mulinge, the tournament aims to register over 3000 teams across the country, building on the success of the previous season.
"We will ensure that the success we witnessed in the season is realized, and aside from identifying the 32 all-stars who will travel to Spain, we will have a coaching clinic to give the coaches an opportunity to get good level of training," Mulinge said during the launch at Ligi Ndogo.
The 32 all-star team will have the opportunity to tour and train at the Santiago Bernabeu, home of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa hailed the partnership, stating that it has been instrumental in the growth of grassroots football in Kenya.
"They are the best for us in executing what they are doing, and as we have seen, it's not easy to find someone to partner with you for three years," Mwendwa said.
Registration of teams for the tournament will run until September 6, with the national finals set to take place in Mombasa.
