Safaricom Employee Charged with Stealing from Deceased Client's Account

Published on August 13, 2019, a Safaricom employee has been arraigned in court for allegedly stealing a phone number belonging to a deceased woman.

Peter Odhiambo Ochieng, a Safaricom employee, is accused of accessing a Safaricom number belonging to the late Janet Khaniri, wife to Wilson Karani Khaniri, on July 26, 2019.

He is further accused of stealing Ksh.45,600 property of the deceased person on the same date at an unknown place within the republic of Kenya.

Appearing before Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Through his lawyer, the accused person pleaded for lenient bond terms, citing his role as the sole breadwinner to a young family.

He also informed the court that he is facing a similar charge in another court where Safaricom Limited is still the complainant.

The court released him on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000 or an alternative of Ksh.200,000 bond.
