On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Postal Corporation of Kenya's (PCK) title defense in the Kecoso Games football tournament was left hanging in the balance after a shocking 2-1 loss to Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) at Gusii Stadium.
Despite coming into the match with a 3-0 win over Shabana FC in their opening match on Saturday, PCK's John Kamau-coached side was stunned by KFS's Peter Bukusu, who scored both goals for the winning team.
Bukusu opened the scoring in the 17th minute after combining well with Dennis Amboso and Brian Buleti, a move that caught their opponents unaware. He doubled the lead in the 69th minute before William Odero replied for PCK three minutes later.
According to KFS coach Mwinyi Mapesa, the team had expected to register good results after holding KPA to a 1-1 draw in their previous match. Mapesa is planning to unleash a strong squad tomorrow to beat Shabana and qualify for the semis.
For PCK's John Kamau, the loss has put the team in a complicated situation, with only a slim chance of qualifying for the semis. Kamau is using the games as pre-season training ahead of the Kenya Premier League's 2019/20 season, which kicks off at the end of the month.
Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) and Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) from Group 'A' have already qualified for the semis, while the other two qualifiers from Group 'B' will be known after Wednesday's matches.
On the same day, KMA trounced KAA 7-0 to finish level with CAK in group 'B' with four points each.
