On August 13, 2019, ODM leader Raila Odinga met with Coast Governors Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi, as well as Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori, at a meeting at Capitol Hill. The meeting comes at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is undergoing reforms, following the expulsion of Kilifi MP Aisha Jumwa from the party.

According to sources, the meeting aimed to discuss 'issues of national interest with a particular emphasis on the coastal region.' The four leaders, who are influential in the Coast region, met to ensure that the ODM party remains the dominant force in the area.

Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori was forgiven by the party after appearing before its disciplinary committee and submitting a written apology for going against the party's interests. In contrast, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi expressed surprise at the expulsion of Aisha Jumwa from the party.
