On August 13, 2019, a multi-agency team arrested Ali Punjani's wife at their home in Nyali, Mombasa County, over drug trafficking allegations.

She was arrested alongside two other foreigners from Nepal and India, marking a significant development in the ongoing crackdown on crime and drug trafficking in the region.

According to Mombasa Police Commander Johnstone Ipara, the team had been waiting for many hours to gain access to the palatial home, where they eventually searched for drugs.

"We will not leave until we search this house top to bottom and establish that there are no drug substances inside," said Mr. Ipara.

Police have since urged Ali Punjani, a Mombasa-based businessman, to present himself before any police station in the county to record a statement over drug trafficking allegations.

However, reports indicate that Punjani is allegedly outside the country for treatment, raising questions about his whereabouts and involvement in the alleged drug trafficking activities.
