Gor Mahia Duo in the Running for SJAK Football Awards

On Monday next week, Nairobi will host the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) football gala, where Gor Mahia's Francis Kahata and teammate Joash Onyango will compete for the Most Valuable Player of the year award.

Published on August 13, 2019, the list of nominees includes players who had outstanding performances that contributed to Gor Mahia's championship title, with some players already having moved to new clubs.

Yanga SC goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo is expected to retain his Golden Glove award, but will face competition from Justin Ndikumana, who replaced him at Bandari.

Other nominees in the Golden Glove category include Kevin Omondi, Samuel Odhiambo from Western Stima, Morgan Alube from Chemelil Sugar, and Omar Adisa from KCB.

The nominees for the Defender of the Year award include Brian Otieno, David Owino, Faina Jacobs, Kelvin Wesonga, Joash Onyango, and former Gor Mahia player Harun Shakava.

The Midfielder of the Year nominees are Francis Kahata, Cliff Nyakea formerly with Mathare United, Bonface Muchiri from Tusker, Danson Chatambe, Whyvone Isuza from AFC Leopards, and Abdallah Hassan from Bandari.

Immediate former Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay, Bernard Mwalala of Bandari Fc, John Baraza of Sofapaka, and Francis Kimanzi of Mathare United are among the nominees for the Coach of the Year Award.
