On August 13, 2019, a surveillance video captured a well-dressed man stealing a backpack from a crowded restaurant in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).
The video, shared on social media, shows the man entering Big Square Restaurant's Moi Avenue branch and pulling a chair next to three people engaged in a heated conversation.
With a clever distraction, the thief pretends to be on a phone call, stretches his leg to grab the backpack's strap, and slides it towards his seat before grabbing and placing it behind him.
He then stands up, picks up the backpack, and walks out of the restaurant, all within 80 seconds.
The victim, oblivious to the theft, continues speaking to the other two people, unaware that their bag is gone.
Nairobi News attempted to reach Moi Avenue Big Square branch for a comment, but their phone calls went unanswered.
