On August 13, 2019, the Kenyan Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism issued a warning to tourists about fake online tour agents who are defrauding visitors.
The ministry's Director of Public Communications, Mulei Muia, stated that cases of fraud on tourists wishing to visit Kenya have been reported.
According to Muia, the fraudsters are not licensed and do not have offices, and are not registered by the Registrar of Companies.
‘Initial findings indicate that these rogue individuals are not licensed tour operators regulated by either TRA (Tourism Regulatory Authority) or the Kenya Association of Tour Operators,’ Muia said.
The ministry has advised tourists to exercise greater caution when booking safaris online and to verify information by contacting the Tourism Regulatory Authority through its website or social media contacts.
