Health workers in Kisumu and Kitui counties have been on strike since July, protesting delayed salaries. The strike has brought operations in county hospitals to a standstill.

According to the Kenya National Union of Nurses, the county administration has been arrogant and reluctant in addressing the health workers' plight. The union has accused the administration of failing to address the issue of delayed salaries.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Meru, where health workers staged a demonstration outside the county government offices to protest their delayed salaries. In Kitui, county employees staged a demonstration outside Charity Ngilu's office.

Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako vowed to protect nurses' welfare nationwide. He hailed the steps taken by the management of Kenyatta National Hospital to allow nurses in the facility join a union of their choice.
