On August 12, 2019, Eliud Owalo, a former key strategist for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), announced his resignation from the party, citing personal reasons.
Mr. Owalo, who served as ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidential campaign manager in the 2013 elections, stated that his 'political ideology, convictions and belief' were no longer aligned with those of the party.
He further requested that ODM remove his name from its register, stating that he had lost enthusiasm for the party and wished to exit immediately.
Mr. Owalo's resignation comes after he failed to secure the ODM ticket to contest for the Kibra Parliamentary seat in the 2017 elections, which was won by the late Ken Okoth.
Speculations have emerged that Mr. Owalo may be preparing to vie for the Kibra MP seat, which fell vacant after Ken Okoth's passing.
Additionally, his resignation coincides with reports that he is part of a 15-member political advisory team assembled by ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi ahead of the 2022 elections.
