According to Jane Wong, a reverse engineering expert and reliable Facebook updates leaker, Facebook has begun working on the dark mode feature.
Wong tweeted about the development on August 12, 2019, stating,

She also shared a link to a blog post about the feature, which is expected to be officially launched in the coming days.
