On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto emphasized the importance of research in Africa's development during the Third RCMRD International Conference in Kasarani, Nairobi County.
He noted that the government would intensify its support to research through increased funding, which would ultimately inform proper planning and boost the quality of information.
Dr. Ruto stated, "Proper planning is a function of quality and accurate information; information that is well researched backed by knowledge and evidence."
He challenged scientists to "step in with the right prescriptions" that would propel the continent forward, adding that scientists need to partner with the government and public institutions in producing accurate data that can guide Africa's development.
Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney also emphasized the importance of science and innovation in tackling Africa's challenges, noting that technology is crucial in attaining the sustainable development goals.
She added that research-backed data would drive the Big Four Agenda in Kenya.
