On August 23, 2019, the government conducted a massive reshuffle at the Prisons department, affecting 133 senior officers linked to scandalous payments.
The move aimed at tightening expenditure at the Prison department was recommended by the office of the State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Zainab Abdalla.
Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogalo announced the far-reaching measure, stating that all handing over and reporting to the new stations of posting would be concluded by August 23, 2019.
The affected officers include 32 Assistant Commissioners of Prisons, 55 Senior Sergeants of Prisons, 33 Sergeants of Prisons, five Chief Inspectors of Prisons, and eight Inspectors of Prisons.
Some of the top notorious officers affected in the shake-up include George Dianga, Benson Makori, Hassan Adan, and Nicholas Mwandau.
Dianga has been moved from Kamiti Maximum security Prison in Nairobi to Kisumu, while Makori, Hassan, and Mwandau have been posted to Kakamega Main Prison, Meru Main Prison, and Kwale Main Prison respectively.
