Published on August 13, 2019, a video released by the Kenyan national women basketball team has highlighted the poor state of Kenyan sports.
The 10 players, led by captain Hilda Indasi and Spain-based Mercy Wanyama, enumerated a list of complaints, including delayed payment of their allowances, in the one-minute video.
They also expressed frustration over the government's failure to facilitate the full squad to travel to Dakar, Senegal for the Afro-Basketball tournament.
Without mincing words, the players laid the blame squarely on the doorstep of the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF).
According to Indasi, the team has experienced 'very poor standards' and has only been paid Sh10,000 so far for the assignment.
They are being forced to play an international tournament with only 10 players (instead of 12) and one coach (instead of three), which puts them at a great disadvantage.
The team, dubbed the Lionesses, have lost in their opening two matches at the tournament against Mozambique and Cape Verde and are scheduled to play Angola on Wednesday.
