On Monday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested two prison warders who were allegedly caught on CCTV cameras hiding cocaine in a toilet at Manyani Maximum Security Prison in Voi.
The arrested officers, Boniface Korir and William Chengo, were also found in possession of unauthorized ammunition, according to the DCI.
The arrest comes as part of an intensified crackdown on drug trafficking and criminal networks in the Coastal region.
Separately, a police boss, Chief Inspector Shadrack Mumo, was arrested in Lamu for allegedly accepting a bribe of Ksh.50,000 to release a drug consignment that had been seized at Mtangawanda jetty in Lamu East on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Mumo was also accused of releasing the suspect caught with the drugs.
