On Monday, August 12, 2019, a major operation targeting politicians and businessmen suspected of being behind the narcotics trade led to the arrest of Ahmed Salama, the Bofu Ward Representative in Mombasa County Assembly.
Salama, who is also known as Bulldozer, was arrested in Likoni following a statement he recorded at the Likoni Police Station. He then took the police officers to his house.
According to Mombasa Police Commander Johnston Ipara, Salama was arrested following reports that he is involved in drug trafficking. He will be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
Earlier on Monday, police seized 147 rolls of bhang, 42 sachets of heroin, and 742 tablets of rohypnol, commonly known as bugizi.
Salama's arrest comes a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i held a meeting with politicians and security teams in Mombasa. At least 18 people have been arrested so far in the operation against drug traffickers.
Chief Inspector Shadrack Mumo, who is attached to the Kizingitini Police Station in Lamu County, was also arrested on Monday over a drug-related case. He allegedly released a drug consignment and a suspect from the station on Sunday.
