Nora Quoirin, a 15-year-old London-based teenager, went missing on August 4, 2019, a day after checking into the Dusun Resort in Malaysia with her family.
Despite an extensive search involving over 350 people, helicopters, drones, sniffer dogs, and divers, the case was initially classified as a missing person case by Malaysian police.
However, a body was discovered, and the Lucie Blackman Trust, a UK charity that supports the families of British people missing overseas, issued a statement confirming the discovery.
"At this time we cannot confirm it is Nora. However, it sadly seems likely. Investigations are underway to confirm identity and cause of death," the charity said.
On August 5, 2019, Nora's family had offered a 50,000 ringgit ($11,900) reward for information that could lead to her return, donated by a Belfast business.
The family described Nora as "so precious to us and our hearts are breaking. We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us find her".
