Eric Omondi's Ambitious Plan for a Youth Parliament ¶
On International Youth Day, comedian Eric Omondi made a surprise appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta, seeking his approval for a forthcoming project aimed at empowering young people in Kenya.
Speaking during the celebrations, Omondi congratulated NACADA Director Mwasia Mutua, popularly known as Chipukeezy, for his good work and progress in improving the lives of young people and their talents.
However, Omondi expressed concern that despite frequent discussions on youth empowerment, little has been implemented to achieve tangible results.
"The issue of youth empowerment has been a topic of discussion for decades. This is a sign that we might find ourselves discussing this issue for years without actually achieving or implementing anything," Omondi said.
Undeterred, Omondi outlined his plans for the youth, calling on Uhuru to support his noble task in building a youth parliament that would represent members from all the 47 counties.
"I plan to build a youth parliament in Nairobi by next year. The Parliament will consist of 47 elected or selected Youths from the 47 Counties and a Speaker," Omondi disclosed.
He also urged Chipukeezy to join his mission, highlighting the parliament's roles in discussing, passing, and implementing issues that affect and improve the lives of young people.
"Young people will discuss, pass and implement issues that affect and improve their lives. We will then move to build a youth office in each County that is run by young people," Omondi explained.
"Chipukeezy bro tutafute Uhunye atupatie (let's look for Uhuru so that he gives us) goodwill and his blessings. Guys mark my words we will do this," Omondi affirmed.
