On August 13, 2019, Hong Kong's airport was once again the focal point of protests, as hundreds of pro-democracy demonstrators gathered in response to a call for a new rally.
Just a day prior, a massive demonstration at the airport had triggered a shutdown, with authorities cancelling all remaining flights into and out of the airport on Monday afternoon.
Despite the chaos, operations resumed early Tuesday morning, but a massive backlog of cancelled flights meant many take-offs were being delayed or cancelled.
Protesters, wearing the signature black of the movement, chanted slogans such as "Stand with Hong Kong, stand for freedom," as passengers scrambled to catch rescheduled and delayed flights.
