Published on August 13, 2019, a rift has emerged within the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) central region branch over the leadership of Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

The branch officials, drawn from the 10 branches in the region, are opposed to Sossion's proposal to disband the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and revert teacher employment to the Ministry of Education.

According to Kirinyaga County Deputy Secretary General Patrick Mwangi, Sossion's call is 'backward' and does not represent the interests of teachers.

The unionists have given Sossion an ultimatum of 7 days to vacate office or face removal by force.
