Published on August 13, 2019, a worrying trend is unfolding in the country's political landscape as DP William Ruto becomes increasingly isolated from the established politicians.
While Ruto is mainly supported by first-term MPs and political neophytes, his polarizing politics have led to a significant rift with his former allies, leaving his strategists scrambling to find a solution.
According to sources close to the talks, Ruto has dispatched secret emissaries to approach Raila Odinga in an attempt to iron out any issues between the two rivals.
It is believed that Ruto has toned down his public insults on Raila Odinga for the last two weeks, suggesting that the secret emissaries were dispatched around the same time.
"A former ambassador and a well-known politician from the Rift Valley, who is close to the two, have been reaching out to Raila's people," said a source familiar with the talks.
Notably, all the country's top politicians, including Musalia Mudavadi, Isaac Ruto, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Gideon Moi, are in good books with Odinga and are forming a formidable team ahead of the pending referendum.
It remains to be seen if the relationship between Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto will be mended or if the emissaries are doing zero work, with no light at the end.
