Published on August 13, 2019, Red Bull has made a significant change to its Formula One team, replacing French driver Pierre Gasly with Alexander Albon for the remainder of the season.
Thai driver Albon, 23, has been promoted from the team's sister outfit Toro Rosso, where Gasly will now take his place.
Gasly, also 23, is currently sixth in the championship with 63 points, while his teammate Max Verstappen is third with 181 points.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated that the decision to replace Gasly was made to give him time to reflect and improve his performance, saying, "Pierre really needs to take some time out during the break, reflect, and take the lessons into the second part of the year."
The team aims to "use the next nine races to evaluate Alex's performance" and make a decision on who will drive alongside Max Verstappen in 2020.
The next race takes place at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on September 1.
