Photography has become a vital part of life for Brian Ogutu, a second-year student at Maseno University. Since joining the university in 2017, he has been honing his skills as a photographer under the brand name 'Mtaani Photography.'
Starting with just a smartphone, Brian has grown his business to include five Canon cameras, which he hires out to his fellow students every day. His initial capital came from savings from pocket money and HELB allowances.
On average, Brian makes between Sh1,000 and Sh5,000 per day from hiring out the cameras and taking photographs at events. The university's beautiful scenery is a major draw for students looking to capture memories.
However, balancing his studies with his photography business can be challenging. Brian often has to juggle classes, assignments, and exams with his photography commitments, leaving him little time for rest.
Despite the demands of his business, Brian is determined to succeed. He believes that photography has kept him busy and away from idling, which could lead to drug abuse and 'premature sex.'
For Brian, his future is in photography. He sees it as a way to build himself and create a better life.
