August 12, 2019, will be remembered as a tragic day for the music world in Ivory Coast. DJ Arafat, a 33-year-old singer and DJ with a massive following in francophone Africa, lost his life in a road accident in Abidjan.
According to RTI, the state broadcaster, DJ Arafat died at an Abidjan hospital after being critically injured in a motorbike accident. The accident occurred when he smashed into a car.
As news of his death spread, fans and fellow musicians took to social media to pay their respects. Burna Boy tweeted, 'Just heard the sad news about “Dj Arafat”. Prayers up to his family at this sad time.'
Joan Ngomba shared a CCTV footage of the accident, which captured the moment DJ Arafat lost control of his motorbike. The video has been widely shared on social media.
High On 5 also paid tribute to DJ Arafat, saying, 'R.I.P Ivorian Legend #DJArafat Allah knows the best.'
