Published on August 13, 2019, Kenyan shooter Sammy Onyango made history by winning gold in the Expert category at the Northern Nationals shooting tournament in South Africa.
Onyango, a renowned International Defence Pistol Association (IDPA) shooting expert and Vice-Chair of the National Gun Owners Association (NGAO), defeated 17 Master shooters on his way to glory.
His exemplary performance earned him promotion to Master from Expert in the SSP category, a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport.
Onyango's victory came after a series of impressive performances, including winning two gold medals at the Hungarian Magtech Shooting Championships and bagging an award in the Chairman's Cup.
Senior Sergeant Daniel Kyalo Mutiso of Prisons, who travelled with Onyango for the shooting tournament, won gold in the Law and Enforcement category and was ranked 13th overall.
Onyango's achievement has boosted the confidence of the Kenyan shooting team, which has been preparing for the World Championship in Alabama, USA, in October.
"I'm happy with this achievement. I have been shooting for many years and being promoted to a Master shooter feels amazing," Onyango said in an interview.
