Kitui County is facing a budget stalemate, with the executive and assembly at odds over a Sh40 million allocation for ward development.
According to Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, the situation is reminiscent of Makueni's own experience with the first Assembly, where a similar crisis led to development being held hostage.
"I don't want to accuse either side, but the problem with a budget crisis is likely to hold development hostage," Kibwana said during a church fundraiser in Wote.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has returned the estimates for amendments in the House, but the MCAs have refused to omit the allocation.
Meanwhile, the MCAs have also petitioned Ngilu to sack former health Executive Rosaita Mbukua Ngina and Philip Mumo (Trade) over "fake" university papers.
On August 13, 2019, Kibwana urged leaders, including those from the church, to help resolve the dispute for the sake of the people.
