On May 16, 2018, Miguna Miguna announced that he would be postponing his return to Kenya due to ongoing issues with his passport. The Kenyan-born Canadian lawyer had been ordered by the High Court to be allowed unconditional re-entry into the country.
According to Miguna, the Department of Immigration had refused to issue him a valid Kenyan passport, prompting him to instruct his advocates to bring the matter to the court's attention.
He had initially planned to arrive in Kenya on a specific date but cancelled his flight at the last minute. Miguna urged Kenyan patriots and members of the National Revolutionary Movement of Kenya (NRMKe) to engage in peaceful protests against the government's refusal to obey court orders and its alleged looting of public resources.
He called for processions, sit-ins, street protests, hunger strikes, and the use of all available media to bring attention to the issue. Miguna also declared that the National Revolutionary Movement of Kenya (NRMKe) was the new Kenyan opposition, following the collapse of the NASA coalition.
He emphasized the need for a merit-based democratic society and urged Kenyans to march on until they defeat those trying to institutionalize a culture of impunity.
