Published on August 12, 2019, Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A devices have been a huge hit in the market since their launch in the third and fourth quarters of 2018.

Both devices were well-received by consumers due to their excellent pricing and features, offering the best bang for anyone's money when compared to their competitors.

However, the devices faced a major setback when a post on Xiaomi's official forums revealed that they had been side-stepped from the company's future update plans, effectively meaning the end of the road for the devices.

Despite making the jump to MIUI 10, the devices did not receive the Android 9 Pie upgrade, missing out on exclusive features available on newer devices.

But there was a glimmer of hope as the company tested Android Pie for the two devices with a small section of users who signed up for the beta exercise.

After a long wait, the update is now seeding to Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A devices around the world, and it's only a matter of time before the update hits your device over the air (OTA).

For the impatient, you can download the update files and flash them on your device.

With the Android Pie update, users can now enjoy system-wide dark mode and facial biometrics to lock applications, among other features.
