Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) men's basketball team secured a thrilling 51-49 win over arch-rivals Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in a preliminary match played at Kisii High School on Monday.
The match, part of the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (Kecoso) games, saw KCAA's star players Alphas Mwema and Eric Walucho lead their team to victory. Despite a slow start, KCAA stepped up their game in the last two quarters to secure the win.
Coach Fred Mutsotso praised his team's performance, saying, 'We played a tough side but my squad played extremely well to secure victory.'
KPA, who relied heavily on Micky Wana, Dan Okwiri, and Samuel Ocholla, dominated the first quarter but lost momentum and eventually lost the match. KPA coach Ben Okello blamed the loss on poor officiating.
The match saw KPA win the first quarter 11-9, lose the second 13-14, and the third 12-16, but win the fourth quarter 13-12.
Elsewhere, KPA women's team lost 42-41 to KCAA in another match of the day.
On Tuesday, KCAA will face Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) before KPA play Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK).
Meanwhile, in netball, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works beat Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) 31-18, while Kenya Airport Authority lost 7-76 to title favourites Kenya Ferry Services.
CAK football team, meanwhile, is through to the semi-finals after beating KAA 7-0 in a Group 'B' match at Gusii Stadium on Monday.
