The seventh edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (Kicosca) games kicked off in Kericho on Monday, August 12, 2019.
The event, which ran for five days, was officially opened by Council of Governors chairman and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, after Deputy President William Ruto failed to attend.
Hosts Kericho men and women teams suffered losses in the tug of war competition, which was witnessed by governors Professor Paul Chepkwony (Kericho), James Ongwae (Kisii), Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), and Cornel Rasanga (Siaya).
Nakuru County team, coached by deputy governor Dr Erick Korir, emerged victorious in the women's title, defeating their Kericho counterparts twice.
Kericho County men's team was no match for Nairobi County, which successfully defended their turf.
During the opening ceremony, Oparanya emphasized the importance of Kicosca in fostering unity and cohesion among the country's communities.
Professor Chepkwony assured the players and visitors that security had been enhanced in Kericho town and its surroundings, stating, 'We have put adequate measures in place to ensure the town and its environs are crime-free. Kericho is generally a safe town and the people are warm and welcoming.'
